Bloxes as Art in Austin

August 13th, 2008

After we debuted bloxes at SXSW Interactive conference in March, 2008, we had a whole lot of assembled bloxes that weren’t going to make it back to Chicago with us. Rather than throw them out, however, we saw the opportunity to make a difference to local schools. We donated approximately 400 bloxes to the Austin Independent School District, to be used however they wished.

The bloxes were given to the middle school art teachers and two high school teachers, who used them for art projects with their students. Patricia Carpenter, an art teacher at Murchison Middle School, passed along a couple photos of her students’ projects. We expected them to use the bloxes as structures of some sort, but instead they used them more as a canvas for decoration and collaboration. Cool!

Have you done something neat with bloxes? Share it with us by emailing info@bloxes.com, or by posting photos to the bloxes flickr pool!
